KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM RENOVATIONS ON A BUDGET

Emily from Mississippi says:
My husband and I live on a military base so our house came with the "standard issue" - white walls. Since we're only going to be here for about a year, I thought I could just hang out with the white walls until our next move (where we'll probably be for around 4 years).

BUT painting is just worth it. Sure we will have to prime over everything before we leave, but in the meantime? *sigh* lovely. The last house we lived in was already painted (not on base) when we got there... it was perfect. "My" colors. I think about it all the time, and we only lived there for 7 months. So yeah, painting is worth it.

The cost of the makeover is as follows:
  • Little shelf beside front door: $25
  • Rug: $80
  • “New” Curtains: $0 (swapped with office curtains)
  • Rearranging furniture: $0
  • Paint, rollers, brushes, tape: $25

Total: $130

On the other hand, a kitchen dilemma was resolved with a $197 budget!

The first thing to go was that nasty "brick wall" thing that was next to the stove. With limited drawers and counter space, these IKEA bars are perfect for the space. New utensils and pots&pans are much needed!
